We think that a beautiful smile is a healthy one.

Our skilled dental specialists provide quality hygiene treatments for healthy, dazzling smiles.

Why visit the hygienist?

You may decide to attend without a referral, or you may have been given a hygiene referral as part of a personalised preventative care plan.

Our devoted team of hygienists is skilled in assisting our patients in preventing and treating gum disease. They will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to maintain your gums and mouth healthy in the long run.

What should I expect at my hygienist visit?

When you visit our dental clinic, you will always be greeted by our courteous front-of-house team. In a peaceful clinic waiting room, we will supply you with refreshments.

Before beginning treatment, your dental hygienist will meet you and ensure that you are comfortable. The treatment includes carefully cleaning the teeth and eliminating persistent stains and debris like plaque and tartar.

The primary goal of our practice is to prevent, treat, and stabilise gum disease. During your stay with us, you will be given oral hygiene guidelines to help you maintain good dental health at home.

What is gum disease?

Gum disease is a term used in dentistry to describe a variety of disorders that affect the gums and supporting tissues of the teeth. Gingivitis and periodontitis are the two most frequent gum diseases.

Gingivitis is a reversible inflammation of the gums caused by plaque and other bacteria. Your dental team can help with treatment, cleaning, and home care advice.

Periodontitis is the irreversible form of gum disease that damages the supporting structures that hold teeth in place. This includes periodontal ligaments and bone. Hygiene treatments and a good oral hygiene regime at home will help halt the progress of this type of gum disease.

How do I prevent gum disease?

A comprehensive dental hygiene programme, which includes cleaning between the teeth and attending regular check-ups, is necessary to keep gum disease at bay.

As part of your check-up, your dentist will ask you a series of questions about your lifestyle and inspect your gums for early signs of gum disease. Gum disease can be treated in its early stages by a dentist or dental hygienist.

What causes gum disease?

Gum disease can also be caused by the following factors:

  • Poor oral hygiene (poor tooth/gum cleaning)
  • Smoking
  • Consumption of high-sugar, carbonated drinks
  • Diabetes
  • Certain cancer treatments
  • Crowding of the teeth
  • Side effects of medication
