Removal is another synonym for extraction. Extractions are a routine operation that is required for a variety of reasons. Your professional dental team will calmly and clearly talk you through the process at each stage.
There are several reasons why an extraction is required. You may need to make some space for orthodontic treatment (braces), or you may have wisdom teeth that are causing discomfort. For most patients, removing a tooth is the last choice for a tooth that has resisted many treatments and has no other options.
First and foremost, you will be greeted and seated in our comfy chairs. Once you are satisfied, we will explain the benefits of having the treatment, the risks or complications specific to you and all our available options. If you agree to proceed, we will administer a local anaesthetic to numb the region and prevent you from experiencing any discomfort. During the extraction, it is usual to experience feelings such as pressure, but nothing sharp.
We’ll be checking in with you frequently to see how you’re feeling. If you feel anything other than pressure or pressing, we will immediately cease. After removing the tooth, you will be given a gauze pack to bite on to stem any bleeding, and we will go through aftercare instructions with you.
After having a tooth removed, some discomfort is to be expected for a few days. Over-the-counter pain relief medication should get on top of any discomfort. If your discomfort is worsening, conventional medications aren’t working, or the discomfort is keeping you up at night, it’s time to see a professional. Please contact us as soon as possible since this might indicate an infection.
